| Bio: | Miss Marmot is often found nibbling on alpine grasses in the Cascade Mountains. Her hoary coat keeps her warm as she frolics the day away, occasionally chirping and whistling to warn her compatriots of danger. Radio collar around her neck, Miss Marmot was forcibly relocated to Maine in 2001. The subalpine meadows which are her normal habitat were replaced with sea-level clearings, pine trees, blueberry barrens, and "mountains". However, Miss Marmot looks forward to making friends with the local population of beavers, a gregarious lot, if rather damp. In 2003, Miss Marmot, having tired of Maine (beavers, it transpires, are much like moose in their lack of couth), is heading to the Greater Boston Area. She hopes to make the acquaintance of other large rodents and learn to enjoy fried clams. Being of a peripatetic nature, Miss Marmot has resolved to try life on the other side of the pond in 2006. Relocation to the English countryside will take her away from her beloved fried clams, but opportunities abound for Continental travel and sightings of the European hamster, Cricetus cricetus. Miss Marmot is also expecting a marmotlet in the summer of 2006. | |||||
